Friendship Soup Mix in a Mason Jar

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Dried Split Peas
  • 1 Cup Dried Lentils
  • 1/2 Cup Pearl Barley
  • 2 Beef Bouillon Cubes
  • 1/4 Cup Minced Onion
  • 1 tsp Basil
  • 1 tsp Oregano
  • 1 tsp Parsley
  • 1 tsp Thyme
  • 1/4 Cup Uncooked Brown Rice
  • 1/2 Cup Uncooked Small Pasta (ditalini for example)


For a Gift we suggest adding the ingredients into your Mason jar in this order:

  • 1/2 Cup Split Peas
  • Brown Rice
  • Minced Onion
  • 1/2 Cup Lentils
  • Spices
  • 1/2 Cup Split Peas
  • Beef Bouillion Cubes
  • Pearl Barley
  • 1/2 Cup Lentils
  • Top off with pasta

Ingredients needed to make the soup:

  • 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15oz) can of tomato sauce
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 3 Quarts (12 cups) water or beef stock
  • Salt & pepper to taste

How to Make the friendship soup instructions: 

  1. Remove pasta from jar and set aside
  2. In a large stockpot pour in soup mix (sans pasta), water, cooked ground beef, garlic, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce.
  3. Bring to a boil then turn down to a simmer.
  4. Simmer for 1 hour.
  5. add pasta & cook until tender (about 10 minutes)
